Contract reporting and overseas remittance: what changes for non-residents

Why the real-estate report, foreign acquisition report and foreign-exchange bank review are related but not interchangeable.

Three different reporting layers

The transaction report records the sales contract. The foreign acquisition regime addresses acquisition or continued ownership by a foreign person. Foreign-exchange reporting addresses how a non-resident brings in or withdraws acquisition funds. One filing does not automatically complete the others.

Build a document trail

Banks can request identity, residence status, contract, registry information and evidence of lawful source of funds. Use the same buyer name and payment references consistently. If the acquisition is through a foreign-invested company or a Korean branch, the sequence changes and should be planned before capital is remitted.
